Support Feminist Storytelling
Bechdel Project is now one of the last remaining lifelines for feminist storytellers in NYC, and demand for our programs has tripled.
As developmental spaces continue to close, more than 800 artists relied on us in 2025 for studio space grants, public programming, and the support necessary to keep creating in an increasingly hostile cultural climate.
Even with commercial rental revenue cut in half and national arts funding contracting, we delivered our strongest year ever:
1,500+ hours of free studio space and 35 free public events - a 50% increase in access
A landmark year for ROO Resident Nikki Brake-Sillá, including a two-week residency in Germany, attaching director Lori Parquet (SUFFS) to the project, a developmental workshop and reading at LPAC, and a real moot-court collaboration with a HBCU law school
Five new feminist plays developed through the FIFE Fellowship, including an O’Neill semifinalist
A powerful expansion of the Interstate Initiative brought Missouri playwright Courtney Bailey and her team to NYC, launching a global open-access campaign for The Pavement Kingdom
80% of the artists we serve are BIPOC, LGBTQ+, disabled, caregivers, or women over 40, voices too often excluded from NYC’s cultural pipeline. Without Bechdel Project, many of these stories simply would not be told.
But today, our demand far outpaces our resources, and without immediate support, we cannot sustain this level of access.
Your gift right now will:
Increase artist pay, including doubling ROO Residency support
Protect 1,500+ hours of free community space and programming
Expand micro-grants for caregivers and essential resources
Sustain staffing and safeguard one of NYC’s last truly free, feminist creative spaces
This moment is urgent. Artists help us understand and heal the world. We NEED these stories.
