Applications reopen from August 1st-August 31st for eligible applicants seeking space grants between September 15th-December 15th, 2026.
Bechdel Project studios are made available to the community for the furthering of work that amplifies the voices and stories of women, non-binary, and underrepresented genders and can be used for: rehearsals, meetings, classes, presentations, workshops, and small scale photography and video shoots.
Applications are open every 3-4 months. Check back regularly!
Community Space Grants are supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
Studio occupancy is 35 people.
Grant hours are typically M-F 9am-9pm (with limited weekend availability)
Community space can be used for: rehearsals, meetings, classes, presentations, workshops, small scale photography and video shoots. Events open to the public are considered on a case by case basis and all public offerings must be free to the community.
Grantee or official point of contact signatory must be present at all reserved times unless permission is given in advance by Bechdel Project.
Grants do not include artistic development, producorial support, or living accommodations.
Anyone who wishes to use the community space must submit signed copies of our terms and conditions which outline our host rules, reciprocity offerings, and health and wellness protocol.
In exchange for the free use of Bechdel Project Studios, the Client agrees to:
Write a Google Review sharing your experience working in the space upon completion of their grant.
Add a permanent link on your website to Bechdel Project’s website (options could include: in a blog post, on a partners page, or donor/supporter page)
Credit Bechdel Project’s donation of the space in programs (if applicable)
Publish at least one piece of content on social media about your use of the community space program along with the handle/tag @bechdelproject and/or make Bechdel Project a collaborator on the post.
Allow all photos taken at Bechdel Project and made public or shared by the client or their attendees to be used by Bechdel Project for future grant and promotional purposes.
